The Vasiliadis family has been in beekeeping since 1939. Grandfather, Nikolas Vasiliadis passed on his love for beekeeping to his son, Theodore who studied side-by-side with the renown professor Mr. Trivizas to keep the trade of beekeeping alive. After his studies, Theodore returned to his hometown of Florina to create his own modern apiary.
The tradition continues with Nico Vasiliadis as he continues to build on the knowledge passed on to him, improving on beekeeping to produce high-quality honey and honey products.
Our honey is collected from the honeycombs of Central and Western Macedonia and packaged in a state-of-the-art certified processing unit allowing us to bring pure products to the consumer.
The value of honey has been recognized since ancient times with specific references being made in Egyptian papyri dating 3500 years back relating to the healing properties of honey. In the Indian Book of Life, the daily consumption of milk and honey was said to prolong life.
For the Greeks, nectar was said to be the food of the immortal Olympian Gods as Zeus himself was raised on honey. The father of medicine, Hippocrates, recommended honey as a cure for a wide range of ailments and diseases, while the philosopher, Aristotle, strongly believed that honey indeed prolong life.
Nico Vasiliadis developed a method for breeding bees in “quadrahive” which is used in the large-scale breeding of Queen bees to replace the aging ones and to breed new worker bees. The quadrahive is made up of four entrances as opposed to one but has the same exterior dimensions as a conventional hive. This makes transporting the hive easier and facilitates monitoring of the hive as it is essentially a 4-in-1 structure.
